History[]
Opened in 1980-1982, Trerulefoot became Little Chef's furthest south site, a title it held until around 1987 when St Austell opened further along the road. Trerulefoot is a classic example of the ideal Little Chef site being on a long distance route, popular with holidaymakers and sited off a roundabout for maximum access, beside a petrol station for extra pulling power and perched high to make it visible.
All seemed to be going well until 2004/05 when Little Chef's then owners Permira put that chain up for sale and, in addition, put 131 of it's 370 or so restaurants on the market. Although the new owners took on some of these 131 restaurants, Trerulefoot was one of the closures. However, in March 2005 it opened as Route 38.
In 2022, it was announced that Loungers plc (owners of Cosy Club and Lounges) had acquired 3 of the 4 locations owned by the Route Restaurants chain, with Brightside Roadside set to take over the premises in 2023. The Brightside eventually opened on 8 June 2023.
