Little Chef Wiki

The Tomatin branch was a former Little Chef restaurant located on the A9 near Tomatin, Scotland.

It was the 4th Little Chef to open on the Perth to Inverness corridor. It replaced the Inverness branch, which closed the same time after it was bypassed and, being a bit further south, Tomatin also helped to make up for the loss of Newtonmore a few miles further south.

Housed in the former Freeburn Hotel building, the Little Chef was right at the Tomatin junction on the A9 making it easily accessible from both sides of the road and, sitting slightly above the road, it was very visible too. Cracking site.

Sadly, despite a decent run and a good roadside presence, Tomatin Little Chef didn't make it past 2005/6 and was closed when then owners People's Restaurant Company hit financial problems. In 2008 it was demolished when Braemore Estates got hold of the site and planned to build a 42-bedroom hotel and restaurant, marketplace, whisky visitor centre and four retail units. However, this never materialised.

Today the site remains empty and with the A9 now busier than it ever was, there would be no better time for Little Chef to return.
