The Thinford branch opened in 1990 to the enjoyment to A167 travellers to stop and have a meal and Trusthouse Forte chose the quirky site because it was to make travellers happy. Sadly it shut in 1999 due to underperforming trade and in 2000 it became a McDonald's, which still operates to this day. There was also a BP forecourt here, which had been demolished in about 2014/15 to make way for a Starbucks outlet. The other BP forecourt on the opposite side of the road has since had a remodel as it continued to trade on, and was joined by a KFC.
When the McDonald's had a refurb in the early 2010s, an extension was built at the front of the building to accommodate additional seating within the restaurant.
