History[]

Despite the services opening in August 1992, following the completion of the A5 Shrewsbury Bypass, it wasn't until Autumn 1995 when a Little Chef restaurant and Travelodge hotel were added to the site. Prior to its opening, there were originally plans for a Little Chef to be built at the Battlefield services, located a few miles to the northeast at the junction of the A49/A53; however, Forte opted to build a restaurant at Bayston Hill instead.

In June 1996, and following Granada's acquisition of Little Chef, a Burger King was added to trade alongside the restaurant. In 2006, a Coffee Tempo! takeaway unit was added; however, this later closed.

In 2011, the Little Chef received the 'Wonderfully British' refurbishment along with nine other sites. Wonderfully British was the follow-on, slightly tweaked version of the "Hestonised" site, with slightly different interior finishes, new branding (Charlie lost his tray and instead had his arms open to welcome visitors) and Little Chef's new "grab and go" take-away option branded as Good to Go.

Following the takeover of the Little Chef brand by Euro Garages in 2017, the Little Chef at Shrewsbury ceased trading in January 2018, making it one of the last sites to have closed across the entire estate. Following a brief stint as an EG Diner, the building was refurbished in March 2020 to become a Burger King and Subway combination site. A Sainsbury's on the Go shop was added to the building, although this was short lived and closed in October 2020.
