History[]

The Little Chef at Rugeley first opened in 1987 and was built alongside a filling station on what used to be the main A51 route between Stone and Lichfield. A Little Chef Lodge was also built to accompany the restaurant, although this was re-branded as a Travelodge by 1989. The restaurant was housed in a building with a pitched roof, double front design, the typical building style for Little Chefs opening at the time.

In 1999, and following Granada's acquisition of Little Chef, a Burger King was added to trade alongside the restaurant. It was built in a new extension and even sported full drive-thru facilities.

In 2007, the A51 was re-routed onto a new alignment to the east following the construction of the Rugeley Eastern Bypass. Although long-distance traffic travelling between Stone and Lichfield were now diverted away from the Little Chef, the former A51 was renumbered as the A460 and thus the site was now located on the main route between Rugeley and Wolverhampton.

The Little Chef at Rugeley closed in 2011; however, Little Chef would continue to operate the Burger King on site. A Subway opened in the space of the former Little Chef restaurant in 2014.

In 2017, the site was taken over by Euro Garages, who refurbished the site in 2019. A Sainsbury's on the Go shop was also added to the building, although this was short lived and closed in 2020.
