History[]
The Little Chef at North Muskham first opened in the Summer of 1965, alongside a filling station operated by S V Milnes. The Little Chef was, for a very brief period of time, located on what used to be a single carriageway section of the A1, until the road was upgraded to a dual carriageway in 1966.
In 1970, a Little Chef opened at the Cromwell Services, located a mile to the north of North Muskham on the northbound side of the A1. As such, the North Muskham restaurant traded in tandem with the Cromwell site, until Cromwell Little Chef ceased trading in 2008.
Originally, the Little Chef was housed in a small, rectangular, flat-roofed building (a photo of the original restaurant building can be located at the gallery below); however, the building was later remodelled in the 1980s and, as such, the restaurant was now housed in a larger, brick building. Following the refurbishment of the Little Chef, a Little Chef Lodge hotel was added to the site, although this later became a Travelodge in 1988.
A Burger King was added to the Little Chef building in the 1990s, although this later closed.
In April 2015, the Little Chef at North Muskham was converted into a Burger King by Little Chef's then owners, Kout Food Group. The restaurant was later acquired by Euro Garages, who refurbished the building and added a Greggs in 2019.
In December 2020, the adjacent Travelodge closed permanently, owing to the opening of their new hotel in Newark-on-Trent town centre.
