Little Chef Wiki

The Newtonmore branch was a former Little Chef located on the A9 just to the south west of the village of Newtonmore, Scotland.

It was one of three Little Chefs built on the Perth to Inverness corridor in the late 60s/ early 70s (Killiecrankie and Inverness the other two). Newtonmore took the form of the standard flat-roofed Little Chef prefab building and, conveniently was located next to Saunders Garage and Shell filling station.

In 1979, the Newtonmore and Kingussie Bypass was opened which took the line of the A9 and traffic away from the Little Chef. By 1982 it had closed. However, this was not the end. It then re-opened as an independent cafe, marketed at the haulage customer, called the Chef's Grill. This was later changed to the Newtonmore Grill.

Today the site still trades as the Newtonmore Grill and in the original Little Chef building. Changes have been subtle and the origins are still instantly recognisable.
