Address and Onsite Information[]

ADDRESS: Millburn Road, Inverness, Highland, IV2 3TR

ONSITE FACILITIES: KFC

History[]

It was one of three Little Chefs to be built on the Perth to Inverness corridor in the late 60s/ early 70s. (Killiecrankie and Newtonmore on the A9 the other two). This was built beside the patriotically-named Highlander filling station just on the outskirts on Inverness.

Like so many towns on this corridor, Inverness got a bypass which opened in 1982, taking the A9 around the east side of the town. Although this was not too far from the Little Chef, the crucial problem was that it met the A96 to the east of the restaurant putting the Little Chef on the inside of the bypass and taking away most of its passing trade. It soldiered on for a few years but was gone by 1986. Today the Little Chef building is long gone and a KFC sits on part of the site instead. The filling station also closed and was later demolished.

Inverness Little Chef held the accolade of being the UK's furthest north Little Chef until the Forres site was opened in 1984/5 and stole its crown.
