Little Chef Wiki

The Grange Moor branch was a former Little Chef restaurant located on the A642 in Grange Moor near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

The Little Chef at Grange Moor first opened between 1972 and 1976, just off the Grange Moor roundabout (A637/A642 junction). Serving the shortcut between the M1 and M62 motorways and not far from Huddersfield, this was a decent location and, like so many, was next to a filling station to help attract added custom. At one time, the filling station was branded as UK Fuels, but it has always been referred to as "Rockwood Garage". By 2008, the filling station had closed with its DNA still remaining until at least 2012, and has since become a hand car wash, a garden centre and several vehicle dealerships - one being LPW Fleet Sales, a used van dealership which have been trading since 2024.

Built in Little Chef's flat-roofed, white painted house style of the early 70s, the restaurant typified Little Chef of this era.  In 2002, Little Chef was sold by then owners Compass Catering to new owners Permira of Canada, along with Travelodge. At this time there was a cull of sites with some older, standalone sites closing and sadly Grange Moor was one of the casualties.

Since the site closed in 2002, it had been demolished and has since become an Italian restaurant called Orlando's. It is unclear if the building has been heavily modified or completely rebuilt but it certainly stands in the same place. As of 2022 it now operates as another Italian restaurant, known as Garda.
