Following the opening of the A19 in the 1960s, a dual-sided service station was constructed between Murton and Easington with each side hosting a Shell filling station. The southbound side received the added bonus of a Little Chef restaurant, housed in a large building complete with dedicated car and HGV parking. With no restaurant on the northbound side, a footbridge was constructed between the two sides so that northbound travellers could access the southbound Little Chef.
The Little Chef closed in 1978 for reasons unknown. In 2002, the restaurant building and footbridge were demolished and the land has since been landscaped.
