History[]

The Little Chef first opened between 1968 and 1972 in a small, white, rectangular building, typical of Little Chef's house style of the time. It was the, slightly newer, partner of the North Muskham branch, which is located on the southbound side of the A1 but is now closed.

According to the BBC Domesday report of 1986 the restaurant served on average 400 customers a day although this could rise to 800 in the summer months. A sample from the Children's menu of the time is shown below:

 This is the Children's Menu.

The Little Chef closed in 2008 and was replaced by Cafe Amore which lasted until 2015. In 2016, forecourt owners Carsley Group were granted planning permission to demolish the former restaurant to expand their sales building. As the forecourt transferred to new owners Applegreen (and then later in the 2020s to Welcome Break), these plans were initially scrapped. The building is currently vacant, and in 2024 Welcome Break revealed new plans to demolish it and build a KFC on the site (if certain road safety measures were met by the council).
