The Clayton-le-Dale branch opened on the A59 in the late '60s. It was a sucessful site for many years, presumably as it was on a particularly rural section of the route, with little other dedicated roadside facilities nearby.
The Little Chef sadly shut in 2005, as a result of Little Chef owners Permira selling certain unprofitable sites. Clayton-le-Dale was likely included as it had no other facilities alongside it (many Little Chefs had a Travelodge, Petrol station or both to bring in more customers).
In 2005, Europlast LTD were interested in ocupying the site but nothing came of it. In 2008, the Little Chef was converted into a veterinary clinic where it continues to operate today.
