History[]

Following the opening of the M180 in 1977 and the A15 in 1978, there were plans for a motel and service station to be built at the Barnetby Top Interchange, which connected these two major routes together. However, it wasn't until around 1990 that a service station here had opened, by which time a new dual carriageway (A180) to the east of the junction towards Grimsby was built. It opened with the typical combination of filling station and Little Chef restaurant, and was accessible to all three routes, making it an attractive stop for long distance traffic in the area, especially for those travelling to and from the nearby ports in Hull and Grimsby.

Owing to its busy location next to three major routes, the Little Chef received a Coffee Stop in 1994, in order to cater for those on the move, although this later closed in 1997.

Despite the restaurant being housed inside of the typical Little Chef building design of the era, with the pitched roof, double front style, the interior of the restaurant was one of a kind, consisting of beams on the ceiling and dividers made out of dark wood instead of light wood.

The Little Chef, despite doing a decent trade, closed its doors by February 2012 and remained abandoned until 2019, when it was demolished and replaced with a Starbucks drive-thru, opening in 2020.
