ADDRESS: A1198 Ermine Way, Arrington, Cambridgeshire, SG8 0AD
History[]
The Little Chef opened in 1974 on what used to be the A14 connecting Royston with Godmanchester. It was believed to have replaced the Bridge Cafe as part of Forte's plans to buy out existing roadside cafes and houses nationwide and turn them into Little Chef restaurants.
However, Arrington Little Chef closed by 1982. It's unclear why Forte chose to pull out of this area, especially given the lack of alternatives nearby. However, given the later redesignation of the A14, coupled with the opening of the nearby M11 in 1980, which ran parallel to the former A14, it was likely that this resulted in a loss in traffic, therefore this was probably the most likely reason for the demise of the Little Chef. The former A14 was later renumbered the A1198.
Today, the Little Chef has been demolished and replaced with residental housing.
