The Ambergate branch was a former Little Chef restaurant located at the junction of the A6 and A610 roads near Ambergate, Derbyshire.

Address and Onsite Facilities[]

ADDRESS: A6 Matlock Road, Ambergate, Derbyshire, DE56 2EL

ONSITE FACILITIES: Anila

History[]

Opened in 1986/87, this was a new build site in Forte's house style of the era, built in red brick with a low pitched roof. Given the lack of Little Chef restaurants which existed in the area at the time, Ambergate was a site well chosen by Forte. Furthermore, the restaurant was situated beside the side of the junction of the A610, an important route which connected Ambergate to Nottingham, so it had the ability to serve more than one route.

In 2001, the Little Chef at Ambergate ceased trading. Despite being located on the main route between Derby and Stockport, it was deemed an unprofitable site by then owners, Compass, who closed several restaurants at the time prior to selling it on to new owners, Permira.

Having played host to several independents over the years, the building is now home to Anila, an Indian restaurant.
